Open Call: Apply to LOATAD’s 2023 West African Writers Residency

Applications are open for the second edition of LOATAD’s 2023 West African Writers (WAW) Residency.

From now until 6 August, writers who are both citizens of and resident in any one of 16 West African countries can apply to spend one month at LOATAD in Accra, Ghana, between August and December 2023 to work on a longform writing project.

All costs associated with the residency will be covered including travel to and from Ghana.

We’re looking for talented writers with a radical literary vision whose work has the potential to disrupt and upend literary tropes when it comes to stories about Africa.

We are particularly looking for writers who are pushing the boundaries of storytelling, and are working in areas that are underrepresented in contemporary African literature e.g. Africanfuturism, nature writing, folktales/folklore, narrative nonfiction, literary criticism, etc.
