The Adinkra Poetry Prize Committee is pleased to share that we will be announcing our finalists of the 2023 Adinkra Poetry Prize on Good Friday, 7 April. Winners will be announced during the week of April 10. This year’s competition received an overwhelming response, with 80 submissions from poets across Ghana.
The Adinkra Poetry Prize was established to recognise and promote excellence in Ghanaian poetry and the intersection between culture, art and poetry. This year’s submissions were diverse and of a very high quality, making the selection process difficult for the judges.
“We were thrilled to receive such an enthusiastic response to this year’s Adinkra Poetry Prize,” said Dr Afua Ansong, the prize coordinator. “The quality of the submissions was outstanding, and we are proud to be able to showcase some of the best contemporary poetry being written in Ghana today.”
The first-place winner will receive a cash prize of $150, while three runner-ups will receive $50. The winning poems will also be published on the Adinkra Poetry Prize website, LOATAD’s website and in a forthcoming anthology. Finalists will also be invited to apply for an international residency.
The Adinkra Poetry Prize Committee would like to thank all of the poets who submitted their work for consideration. We are grateful for the opportunity to read your work and to celebrate the rich literary talent in Ghana.
