LOATAD to participate in historic “Remember Colonialism” event in Berlin

In the heart of Berlin, where the division of Africa was once sealed at the Congo Conference of 1884/85 under the leadership of Chancellor von Bismarck, an event is taking place that spans an arc from the past to the present.

Dekoloniale presents “Memory Concept,” a free three-day event (25-27 April). “Remembering Colonialism”, a project created in 2022 under the direction of Dr. Ibou Coulibaly Diop in cooperation with civil society initiatives such as Dekoloniale, Decolonise Berlin, ADEFRA, Korea Association, korientation and Africa Council. This concept is presented to the public for the first time at the House of World Cultures (HKW) and is promoted by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.

During the event, we will be showcasing the work of the Anton Wilhelm Amo Heritage Society which, since 2019, has been working to decolonially and digitally document the life and work of Anton Wilhelm Amo, the first African philosopher trained in Germany, and to make many other ancestors an integral part of our collective memory. We are particularly pleased about the successful cooperation with the Decolonize Berlin, Dekoloniale, and HKW, which has enabled us to focus even more on Anton Wilhelm Amo. Our kick-off event will take place as “Workshop 3” on Friday, 26. April 2024 from 2 to 5.30 p.m. in the Safi Faye Hall (HKW) in English and German.

There will be documentaries, lectures, discussions with Amo Collective Berlin, StuRa Uni Halle, Decolonial Tours,Postcolonial Halle, and many more. We specifically deal with the question of what a memory of Anton Wilhelm Amo in Berlin could look like. For this purpose, we will work with you on an “Amo Berlin Map” interactively.

Join us via Zoom on Friday 26. April 2024 at 2pm CET / 12pm GMT at https://t1p.de/gnmm2
